SL Piano encourages students to routinely attend the weekly piano lessons, if absent frequently, some courses need to be retaken, the effort beforehand would be wasted, affecting progress, if you are not able to attend piano lesson due to school exam, it is best to come back for make up classes after exam, especially for those who sign up for piano exam preparing for it.

Good results require good teachers, cooperative parents together with students who are willing to practise, one special point to take note is to select the right three exam pieces, not every student is suitable for the same piece, exam syllabus includes 3 exam pieces, scale, sight reading and aural, total 150, most of the 90 marks come from 3 exam pieces.

Students should practise more pieces beyond exam pieces then will sight reading improve, can't for the whole year just to handle exam pieces, but due to current students having school work, cca and even many home tuition, time to practise is limited, but i still encourage students to learn how to manage time, if you make it a daily habit to practise seriously, you will improve.
Some parents at the beginning don't dare to buy piano for their children, for fear of their children quitting half way, what i think is that regardless of parents wanting their children to learn or students want it themselves, to want the child to succeed, parents should persevere to support and encourage the children, moreover at the beginner stage children should make it a habit to practise the piano.
Piano exam is not just testing a student's piano level, impromptu performance is also very important, normally can see students who are more brave are rarely at a loss, what they normally prepare can be well used to express, more timid students are at a disadvantage, often because of nervousness and fear, can't do well in what was prepared before, for this type of students, preparation beforehand has to very thorough, teacher and parents' support are very important.
I teach beginners at the beginning to learn the correct finger posture and sitting posture, especially the finger, if no attention on that at the start, it can become a habit, it will be difficult at a higher grade, reason being that at higher grade there are more things to take note of, nevertheless to constantly remind beginner students to do the correct posture of the finger is my responsibility.
Very often students lose interest after learning exam pieces, not as enthusiastic as they first begun, first reason being that some parents have overly high expectations and force their kids to practise the piano, second reason is that teachers just let students learn exam pieces for the sake of exam without playing other music pieces, slowly students feel bored, i have mentioned before the third reason that is the students have many homework, unable to cope due to lack of time causing pressure, these are problems we need to take note of.
